surprise in House of Mirth

I find the ending of this book to be so moving. Wharton avoids easy fixes or even the unreal clarity that fiction can sometimes provide. I especially love the scene with Nettie. I am destroyed by poor Lily drifting off to sleep hallucinating about the baby. I am so interested to hear what the class will say about this ending!

I'm still reading it (On the Road), but so far i love it! It seems like its going to become one of my favorite books and I'm getting really into it. I find the style and time period refreshing. Its set in the late 40's early 50's and the style is sort of stream of consciousness. The narration is mostly like someone telling you a really great story, but there is also a sense of present time that the dialogue and description bring. I think it would make a great book for Core.
